About
What is seen(x)heard about?
We are a counselling service for young people aged 12 to 25 years old. At seen(x)heard we believe that positive mental health outcomes can be achieved if you are “seen and heard” by a compassionate and authentic mental health professional, whose only agenda is to understand yours.
Our symbol (x) represents the unknown potential we all possess, and can access, if we are given a safe and nurturing holding space. It also symbolises amplification and multiplication of positive outcomes when we are “seen and heard”.
Positive mental health is not some whimsical notion that can be achieved by having a lovely chat and drinking tea (although these things do help). It’s about commitment, unconditional positive regard, taking chances, and trying new ways of doing things.

for Young People
Hi there ✌🏽
As a proud and self-confessed introvert I firstly want to let you know that I’m exquisitely uncomfortable with talking about myself. Here at seen(x)heard our philosophy is about getting to know you — not about me touting heroic sentiments about how I can change your life. But I also understand that you need to know a bit about me to ensure I’m safe, qualified, and experienced in what I have to offer.
I’m a Counselling Mental Health Occupational Therapist, with over 15 years mental health experience. I call myself a wholehearted practical therapist. I combine my counselling skills and OT experience to offer a safe space where we can process what diminishes satisfaction and meaning in your life, whilst also exploring practical ways of dealing with your concerns to restore hope and function.
My approach is relational. I believe that healing and clarity comes from relationships that are safe, free from judgement, compassionate, and sprinkled with a bit of humour. I am evidence-based (informed by research literature) and practice-based (informed by feedback) in the way I do things. Ultimately what this means for you is, if you want to achieve positive outcomes, we need to have a solid working relationship centred around your needs.
In my experience, I’ve found a non-directive approach with my clients, particularly adolescents, works best. But often the primary caregivers want explicit direction and instruction. This is where having an understanding of the “therapeutic alliance” comes into play, and a skilled counsellor needs to be able to work with the needs of both parties. With independent young people, it’s about balancing the non-directive and directive styles.
I’m also a trauma-informed practitioner, which means I have a great appreciation for psychological safety. I’m trained in counselling as well as a number of specific therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), solution-focussed therapy, trauma recovery, expressive therapies, and sensory approaches.
If you like the sound of what I offer, I’d love to get you know you with an initial consultation.
I hope to hear from you soon, and in the meantime stay brave, and look after yourself ✌🏽
